Family DoctorA general practitioner, or GP is a medical practitioner who provides primary care and specializes in family medicine. A general practitioner treats acute and chronic illnesses and provides preventive care and health education for all ages and both sexes. They have particular skills in treating people with multiple health issues. General practice in The Netherlands and Belgium is considered fairly advanced. The huisarts (literally: "home doctor") administers all first-line care, and makes required referrals. His task is to be a listener to the problems his patients have with their health and to keep a overview of the total situation of the patient. His strength is in: knowing a lot and enough to know when to refer to a specialist knowing more about the total picture of a patient, his surroundings, family, than most other caretakers.
In general the family doctor will treat about 90 % of the problems that are submitted to him, himself and will refer the rest Dr. Erik Rempt
